"The Haggards" makes reference to the poem "Dziady" by celebrated Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz. Lis compares drinking rituals, social ceremonies and the culture of Polish homelessness in London with the Slavic feast of commemoration of the dead described by Mickiewicz. Here the ghosts are the homeless of London which represent different dimensions of society.
